Light Rapid Transit System
In order to cope with the need of the development of Macao, the SAR government foster the construction of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) System. The LRT System is a mass transport system with low-carbon emission and its green design, featuring convenience, environmentally-friendliness, and accessibility, which integrates the public transportation network and different modes of travel of the city, provides convenient, reliable, environmentally-friendly, and comfortable public transportation services.
Macao LRT system adopts fully automatic train control system to flexibly adjust the train runs so as to provide more efficient services. The system runs on electricity with zero-emission, rubber tires are used to travel on smooth concrete road to reduce noise, exerting little impact on its surroundings; the brake system of Macao LRT System uses regenerative braking technology in consideration of environmental-friendliness and energy efficiency from all sides.

The Taipa Line is the first line of the LRT System of Macao, which put into operation in 2019, with a total length of about 9.3km and a total of 11 stations. The Taipa line covers the main residential communities in the city centre in Taipa, Taipa old village and tourist area and links with the Taipa Ferry Terminal, Lotus Checkpoint and Macao International Airport, which are the 3 major sea, land and air ports of Macao.
Meanwhile, the SAR Government proceeds the construction of Barra Station and Seac Pai Van Line, as well as the preparation for construction of the East Line of Macau LRT System. With the expansion of the LRT network, residents will be provided with more travel options in the future.

Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum was officially opened to the public in 1987. Back then, the Museum was housed in a two-storey green building, adjacent to the A-Ma Temple. Following the inauguration, the Museum experienced a steady rise in visitor numbers and a continuous expansion of its collection, making it necessary for the Museum to expand its exhibition space. In June 1990, a modern and spacious exhibition building was completed and inaugurated, standing alongside the former exhibition hall, which has been transformed into the administrative building of the Museum, and the A-Ma Temple within the same square.
The Maritime Museum has a unique design that looks like a ship from a distance. The exhibition hall consists of three floors, which focuses on the maritime activities of China, Portugal and Macao, and is divided into different thematic zones. The exhibits not only reflect the evolution of Macao, but also systematically showcase the remarkable achievements of China and Portugal in the history of maritime transport, illustrating the importance of the ocean to human culture.

Airport Expansion and Landfill
Macau International Airport is mainly composed of an artificial island where the runway is located, the aircraft parking apron, the passenger terminal and two taxiways connecting the artificial island and the parking apron. Some of the facilities are becoming increasingly saturated, and there is a need for their expansion plan. In July 2016, the Macao SAR Government approved the “Macao International Airport Development Master Plan”, and the “Macao SAR Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020)” announced in September of the same year clearly proposed to expand the airport in phases, so as to increase its capacity and reinforce its role as an important gateway to the outside world, bringing convenience to residents and visitors. On February 18, 2019, the Central Government announced the “Outline of the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, which also clarified the development of Macau Airport, including strengthening the functions of Macau Airport, supporting the expansion of Macau Airport, and supporting the development of regional business aviation activities at Macau Airport. On 27 October 2022, the Macao SAR Government officially received the authorization document from the Central Government, authorizing the landfill application for the expansion of the Macau International Airport. The airport expansion project is underway and is expected to be completed by 2030.
“Macau International Airport Development Master Plan” aims to increase the airport’s maximum capacity to 15 million passengers per year. The new landfill and expansion of airport facilities will be carried out in stages. The ongoing airport expansion will increase the airport’s passenger capacity from 10 million to 13 million passengers per year. The facilities to be constructed include:
- Filling the water area between the runway island and the two existing taxiway bridges increasing the total area of the airport to 325 hectares;
- Reconstruction of the taxiway system;
- Construction of two new perpendicular taxiway bridges;
- Construction of two new traffic bridges;
- Construction of aircraft parking;
- Increase the number of parking stands to 56, of which 8 are equipped with boarding bridge.
Cross-border Helicopter Transport
Helicopter is the most convenient means of transportation connecting Hong Kong and Macau. A trip between Macau and Hong Kong, or vice versa, using this means of transport takes only 15 minutes. Cross-border passenger transport by helicopter, operated by East Asia Airlines Limited, started operations in November 1990, and currently operates 5 days a week, with 6 daily round-trip flights, from 10am to 7pm. Since April 2002, the helicopter service expanded its operations to include flights between Macau and Shenzhen, currently operating 5 days a week, with 1 daily round-trip flight, which facilitates the movement of passengers between the two cities.
