Public Transportation
The public transportation connecting the Macao Peninsula and the two islands includes buses, taxis and Light Rapid Transit (LRT), available for local residents and tourists.
Public Bus Service
Public bus service in Macao is currently operated by three bus companies: Transportes Urbanos de Macau, S.A.R.L. (Transmac) and Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos de Macau, S.A. (TCM).

- Express bus routes refer to those with route numbers marked with the letter “X”
- For holders of stored value card and student card which have been approved by the Transport Bureau (DSAT), when they take a second ride within 45 minutes after the start of their first ride, or, within 60 minutes when the first and second rides start, respectively, in the Macao peninsula and in the Coloane fare zone, or vice versa, they will be entitled to these fares:
- If the fare of the first ride equals to or is higher than the fare of the second, then the second ride will be free.
- If the fare of the first ride is lower than the fare of the second, then the fare difference will be charged at the start of the second ride.
- The term “Coloane fare zone”, mentioned in no. 4 above, refers to the section between the south of Estrada de Flor de Lótus and Coloane, but not including the University of Macau campus.
- For passengers paying by electronic payment method of the credit institutions of Macao SAR, which have been approved by the Transport Bureau (DSAT) enjoy the same bus fare as the abovementioned.
- Children who are under 1m tall and accompanied by adult ride for free.
- Bus routes which are being operated during festivals, sport events or special occasions are complimentary.

Light Rapid Transit System
In order to cope with the need of the development of Macao, the SAR government foster the construction of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) System. The LRT System is a mass transport system with low-carbon emission and its green design, featuring convenience, environmentally-friendliness, and accessibility, which integrates the public transportation network and different modes of travel of the city, provides convenient, reliable, environmentally-friendly, and comfortable public transportation services.
Macao LRT system adopts fully automatic train control system to flexibly adjust the train runs so as to provide more efficient services. The system runs on electricity with zero-emission, rubber tires are used to travel on smooth concrete road to reduce noise, exerting little impact on its surroundings; the brake system of Macao LRT System uses regenerative braking technology in consideration of environmental-friendliness and energy efficiency from all sides.
The Taipa Line is the first line of the LRT System of Macao, which put into operation in 2019, with a total length of about 9.3km and a total of 11 stations. The Taipa line covers the main residential communities in the city centre in Taipa, Taipa old village and tourist area and links with the Taipa Ferry Terminal, Lotus Checkpoint and Macao International Airport, which are the 3 major sea, land and air ports of Macao.
Meanwhile, the SAR Government proceeds the construction of Barra Station and Seac Pai Van Line, as well as the preparation for construction of the East Line of Macau LRT System. With the expansion of the LRT network, residents will be provided with more travel options in the future.

Cross-border Land Routes
There are five land border passages between Macao and the Mainland located at Border Gate (Border Gate Checkpoint), Qingmao (Qingmao Checkpoint), Artificial island of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port (Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Checkpoint), Hengqin-Macao Frontier Post (Checkpoint of Macao Port Zone of Hengqin Port) and Zhuhai-Macao Cross-Border Industrial Park (Zhuhai-Macao Cross-Border Industrial Park Checkpoint).

Cross-border Helicopter Service
Helicopters are the most convenient way to travel between Macao and Hong Kong, which travelling time is only 15 minutes. A helicopter passenger transportation service was inaugurated in November 1990. Operated by East Asia Airlines, the service operates from 10:00am to 11:00pm. In addition, East Asia Airlines began operating daily passenger helicopter flights between Macao and Shenzhen in April 2002.

Macau International Airport
The Macao International Airport is an international airport that serves the west of the Pearl River Delta, its operation, management and redevelopment is responsible by Macau International Airport Company (CAM) under a government concession until 2039. The key airport operations to various specialist service providers in order to ensure efficient running of the airport to international standards.

Airport Expansion and Land Reclaim
The Macao International Airport mainly composed of the runway on reclaimed island, apron, passenger terminal and two taxiways that connect the reclaimed island and apron, some facilities appear saturated, thus a plan of expansion is needed, In July 2016, the Macao SAR Government approved the Macau International Airport Master Plan (the Master Plan), and in the “The Five-Year Development Plan of the Macao Special Administrative Region” announced in September 2016, phased development of the airport is made clear, so as to enhance the capacity of the airport, strengthen the role as door to the world of the airport, act as the bridge to the sky of residents and visitors. In the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, announced by the Central Government in 18 February 2019, one of the initiatives is to enhance the functions of the Macau International Airport, support the expansion of the airport and the development of the airport's business aviation.
The master plan aims at a capacity of 15 million passengers per year, undergo land reclamation and airport development in two adequate phases, upon completion of phase 1, the capacity will be increased to 11 million passengers per year, while the final phase has a capacity of 15 million passengers per year. The facilities being constructed in the two phases are shown in table 2.
